This is the counterpart to the PJ trouser project that I posted last week. Another project that is available to make in my sewing classes. The project can include a simple letter appliqued using a sewing machine, or can be made plain for a one session make. This is a good introduction to sewing with jersey fabrics. It can be sewn together using an overlocker or a regular sewing machine, you can try out both if you like.
The sizes available are childrens sizes 2-11 years and ladies sizes 10-18
Fabric width 150cm/60″
2-6 years = 60cm
6-11 years = 1.20m
size 10 – 18 = 1.40m
I suggest a light to medium weight cotton jersey such as interlock or single jersey. I used cotton elastane jersey for these samples. The fabric needs to have a minimum of 50% stretch.
The style includes an self fabric neck band and easy flat sleeve insertion.
We look at different options for hemming jersey including twin needle finish.
Using the overlocker to finish hems as well as how to sew a hem on a regular sewing machine.
The top and the bottom make a good introduction to working with woven and knit fabrics as well as basic garment construction. They are perfect for personalised gifts for family and friends too.
